WHY VISIT MEXICO?

Ancient worlds

In Tulum, explore the fascinating history of centuries ago with a visit to cobblestone towns, historic landmarks, and the Mayan ruins. Close to both Cancún and Tulum, discover a wonder of the world – Chichén Itzá. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the largest Mayan landmark on the Yucatan Peninsula, and a treasure-trove of ancient architecture and artefacts.

Explore one of the oldest Spanish towns in Mexico – Valladolid. With Mexican folk art, Templo de San Bernardino, and San Gervasio Cathedral, this quiet colonial town is a must-visit.

Hidden gems

From Puerto Vallarta, travel by boat to the enchanting Las Caletas beach hideaway – a breathtaking natural reserve. Next to a cascading waterfall, ‘mermaids’ will greet you on arrival, with other magical characters scattered around the island. Take part in a cooking class, sway in floating sea hammocks, go snorkelling, or visit at night to watch a mesmerising musical performance.

If you’re travelling to Chichén Itzá from Cancun or Tulum, stop off at Cenote Suytun. Believed to be sacred to the Mayans, this magical underground cave has a natural pool of turquoise water that you can swim in. Playa del Carmen is also a great base to explore some of the many surrounding cenotes. In Cancún, visit the Underwater Museum of Art with its life-sized sculptures.

Ultimate escapism

The bohemian beach town of Tulum offers tranquillity. Sip fresh coconuts. Sway in hammocks. Walk on white sands as palm trees whisper in the breeze. Dip your toes into turquoise waters. You’re in paradise! In the quieter Playa del Carmen, visit the many beautiful beaches or explore Parque Los Fundadores. No trip to Mexico is complete without sampling the delicious cuisine. From burritos, enchiladas, nachos, and guacamole to more traditional dishes including elote (grilled corn), barbacoa (pulled beef) and pozole soup – there’s plenty to tempt your tastebuds!
