Destination Highlights
Despite its evolution into a prime resort area, much of Hilton Head Island's natural beauty and ecology remain as they were when first sighted by English sea captain William Hilton in 1663. Once the province of Sea Island cotton, indigo, sugar cane, rice, and other crops harvested in the days of antebellum plantations, the island is now famous for its beautiful beaches, golf, tennis, and wide variety of restaurants. Visitors can enjoy more than 250 Hilton Head restaurants, and more in nearby Bluffton and Daufuskie, offering every type of cuisine imaginable. For those with a taste for shopping, the area offers everything from chic boutiques to bargain outlets. And if you're looking for nightlife, Hilton Head is home to more than 90 night spots, featuring a wide range of entertainment. Take advantage of the many different cruises available, including dolphin-watching cruises. Hilton Head is one of America's best destinations for beaches, activities, and southern charm.
