GETTING AROUND Regular bus services cover most of Darwin, for a flat AU$5 day pass or AU$15
for a week’s pass. Or hop
onto a Tour Tub, an open-
air tourist bus with a guided commentary to key attractions from 9am to 4pm, but be
sure to pre-book during the peak season (08) 8985 6322, tourtub.com.au
NATIVE AUSTRALIA
Here’s a rare opportunity to enjoy the best of both nature and culture. Hop on a two- hour Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural Tour at the Adelaide River wetland, and immerse yourself in one of the world’s most ancient cultures. Have a go at throwing a spear, try your hand at a didjeridoo or clapstick, and make a dilly bag. Learn about bush tucker and traditional medicine, and end with
a serving of tea and damper– their bush bread. The tour operates 7 days a week from May to October, and bookings are compulsory.

MAJESTIC WATERFALLS
Bushwalk, camp, or jump into croc-free plunge pools – these are but a few of
the activities to expect at the gorgeous Litchfield National Park. The 1500-sq-km national park features stunning waterfalls that pour into crystal-clear cascades. You’ll also see magnetic termite mounds built by cathedral termites. If you only have time for one attraction, make it the Wangi Falls. This majestic waterfall flows all year round, and splashes through a huge orange-rock outcrop into a gigantic
swimming hole lined by pristine forests. Have the luxury of time? Opt for the popular Tabletop Track that takes three to five days of bushwalking. (litchfieldnationalpark.com)
DEFENSE OF DARWIN
At Darwin Military Museum, you will get to discover for yourself the fascinating and sobering history of Darwin’s wartime involvement during World War II. Witness a spectacular collection of artillery housed in the original concrete bunker used by the army during its wartime defence. (darwinmilitarymuseum.com.au)
Just adjacent to the museum, you will
find the Defense of Darwin Experience,
a AU$10 million facility and interactive exhibition space dedicated to enriching visitors on Darwin’s wartime heritage through firsthand accounts, multi-sensory theatre and iconic objects from WW2. (defenceofdarwin.nt.gov.au)
WEATHER
The dry season, lasting from April to October, is the best time to visit Darwin with its predictable clear blue skies.
