• The popular months are July to August, so plan early.
• Autumn can get very chilly, so pack accordingly.
• Not everyone speaks English, thus joining a tour or hiring a guide
will make the experience more pleasurable.
• Learn a few local phrases, and surprise the locals.
Don’ts:
• Keep to designated paths when exploring Mt Sorak’s natural attractions.
• When dining on Sokcho’s delicacies, never stick chopsticks into the bowl of rice. It resembles an offering to ancestors.
• Politics is best left out of your conversations with the locals.
• Always respect the local customs even if they seem strange.
Landscape in Seoraksan (National Park, South Korea)
Sokcho is a coastal city, and is famous as the main entry point to Mount Sorak, or Seoraksan National
Park. The area offers a number of white sandy beaches, relaxing spas, refreshing pine forest, beautiful lakes, and meandering streams flushed with aquatic life.
Its seaside promenade is a delight to the eye as well as the appetite. It’s the perfect place to indulge in the pleasures of fresh seafood such as Hwaleo Hoe (sashimi).
To add to its accolades, Sokcho gained celebrity status when it was chosen
as the setting for the popular Korean TV drama “Autumn in My Heart”. An endearing story of love that captured audiences around the world over, much like the city itself.
But there’s another great reason to visit Sokcho. It’s also the gateway
to Mt Sorak, the highest mountain in eastern South Korea. A national monument, it’s home to the magnificent Biryong, or Flying Dragon Falls. So named because the falls look like ancient dragons racing each other up towards the sky.

3049 Kensington Resort Seorak Beach
Not to be outdone, Cheonbuldong Valley too boasts its own natural formations. Over the centuries, nature has sculpted its surrounding peaks
to resemble, what locals believe, are Buddhist Saints paying homage
to Buddha.
But surely one of the most striking natural phenomenon is the coming of Autumn. Fall presents a spectacular show that’s simply unrivalled. A fiery sea of orange, and red cascades from the mountain tops all the way to the valley like the rays of a never
ending sunset.
An equally rare sight is the Kensington Resort Sorak. A villa-style condominium that is unique in Korea. It’s the choice of celebrities, sports personalities, and even Presidents who want to immerse themselves in the splendor of Mt Sorak. Like Mt Sorak, the resort is definitely one of the highlights of a visit to the region.
A visit to Sokcho, and its magnificent Mt. Sorak will take you to new heights of pleasure like never before. But don’t take our word for it, experience it for yourself.
