Texas Hill Country

Texas Hill Country comes alive each spring in a burst of bluebonnets. These indigo wildflowers spread out among the region’s many hills and meadows, creating scenery that’s a joy to drive through. Sunflowers and lavender take over as the year slides into summer. In the fall, maples and cottonwoods show off glowing crowns of amber and ruby. Snow is rare in winter, but Texas Hill Country’s rugged beauty continues to shine, and the weather is pleasantly mild.

Weekenders from San Antonio and Austin regularly head to Texas Hill Country to take in the view. Wineries, breweries, and distilleries can be found along the country roads, and so can stick-to-your-ribs barbecue: mesquite-smoked brisket, peppery sausage, and thick pork chops. History buffs may want to stop at LBJ’s former home or the Sauer-Beckmann Farmstead, which is run today just as it was in 1918, and is great for kids.
