Just a few hours away from Cancun are unique wonders of the Mayan civilisation, a dynamic society that has endured for more than 3,000 years. The Mayans were known for their art, architecture, and mathematical and astronomical systems, which were all ahead of their time. The Mayan culture is best appreciated by visiting these sites:
Chichen itza. This awe-inspiring World Heritage Site is located west of Cancun
in the Yucatan Peninsula. Named as one
of the New Seven Wonders of the World,

tulum. One of the most-visited Mayan ruins in Mexico, Tulum sits on the edge of a cliff looking out over the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Its name, which translates to ‘wall’ in Mayan, refers to the fortified walls which once protected the city from invaders.
